Eat My Shorts
Eat my Shorts is a collection of short plays for high school students. In teaching Drama it can be hard to find short Australian scripts to suit a wide variety of junior students - the novice and the prima donna. By year 8 and 9 many students have developed their fear of performing in front of others and the importance of not losing face in front of their mates is paramount - a short script of 2-3 minutes has its place in a junior Drama class. These short fun scripts were written to accommodate the students who could really only manage a line or two in a play and those who are completely comfortable in front of their peers. They are comic in nature and deal with teenage issues in a humorous way. They are free to be used and copied. If you do use them, successfully, with your students my only request is for acknowledgment on the script and some feedback on my blog or emailed through to me, for publication purposes to [email protected] All roles are fairly gender neutral so feel free to change Betty to Bob and vice versa. Praise for Eat My Shorts:
"Students will love these plays as they will be able to relate to them. They will love playing the characters and the fact the plays are short will also appeal to students as they will feel that it is achievable to learn their lines without too much stress. The plays would make students look forward to drama and taking part in a play. The language you use is great, it captures the way young people talk and is easy to understand."

"We have 10 week rotations and we've been doing Improv which the kids seemed to like but not that enthused. We have 4 lessons left before the hols and I thought I'd give your plays a go so using Eat My Shorts in my year 8 drama class today. Well, they enjoyed it. It put a smile on my face to see them rehearsing - even the boys! Thanks."
